Conclusion

In conclusion, from what I have acquired over the past couple months of looking at different animal cruelty articles is that there are a lot of sick, sick , sick people in this world! It is absolutely heart-breaking knowing that all types of animals are being physically and verbally abused every single day, luckily there are those people that do everything they can to prevent all of this but sometimes it isn’t enough. For most people they may think “oh animal cruelty, yeah it’s really bad” but they don’t really know how bad it is until you actually go and read different articles.
It’s undeniably upsetting and us as bystanders, if that’s the appropriate word to use, should certainly find a way to show people that this could be happening right next door to us and we would never even know. The more people that are aware of this abuse and neglect the faster we can address this issue and make a change for the better, saving the lives of animals everywhere.
My predictions as to what is to expect in the future is that animal cruelty will still happen no matter how hard we try and make it so people won’t do it. To make a change the issue will get worse before it gets better but in time I would only hope that the punishments for inflicting harm upon animals will be more enforced showing people that animal cruelty isn’t a joke!
Furthermore, something that I feel should be taken into deeper consideration is that, if those merciless people are injuring and potentially killing all these defenceless animals what do you think they are doing to children? If they do in fact have any children. With saying that I’m hopeful that with the help of people in our communities but even around the world, we will be able to make a change that will benefit everyone and prevent the heartache!

Kitten Burned by Fireworks Still Recovering

My final article that I will be writing about was updated today, Thursday, June 7th/2012, but this case of animal cruelty had attention brought to it on Monday, June 4th/2012. As you can infer from the title is that a kitten was indeed burned by fireworks, a citizen brought the kitten in to Animal Care and Control in Fort Wayne after finding it alone and in bad condition. “Belinda Lewis, Director of Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control (AC&C) says she believes someone banded fireworks to the kitten's tail.” The little kitten smelled of sulfur and had pieces of carbon in its fur, as well it had severe burns on the pads of the kitten's paws and its whiskers are burned off. Now, if that doesn’t make you feel angry and hurt I don’t know what else would, just knowing someone was able to physically do this to a defenceless animal is beyond me.
I’m glad to know that this kitten is slowly but surely recovering from its injuries though, the fact that this person or multiple people banded fireworks to a kitten’s tail and then set it off must be really sick in the head and not able to realize what they didn’t wasn’t funny and makes you “cool”. I’m hoping and praying that the person responsible for this traumatic event is found and punished to the fullest extent!

Puppies beaten and abandoned

Once again, another grueling case of animal cruelty, on May 28th/2012 two puppies were found left for dead after being; bashed then wrapped in wire. Lucky, these two puppies are still alive and from what I know are beginning their recovery, one of the puppies is a Great Dane while the other is a Wolfhound Cross. Vet Amy Graham said "One of the puppies will end up with permanent nerve damage to its left front legs,” just knowing that some sick person or people did this and ruined one of these poor puppies life really questions their purpose on this Earth. I apologize for saying that but anyone who is so coldblooded enough to beat little four month old puppies’ needs to spend the rest of their life behind bars, reliving the horror they caused to something so innocent!
Judy Whicker, friends of RSPCA said “People like this don't have a conscience. It certainly worries me if they can treat animals like this, what they would do with pets, what they would do with children and what they will do to other people,” and with this statement from Whicker I agree 100% with her. As she said if someone is treating animals like this who knows how this person or multiple people will be treating children, if they have them.
The puppies, which have been nicknamed Major and Sergeant, I’m hoping, will quickly recover from the head wounds and other injuries they received and that with any luck they may one day be put in a safe and loving home. In addition, I hope Sgt Whicker will be able to find who is responsible with the help of everyone knowing this upsetting case of abuse and neglect.http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/story/2012/05/27/puppies-beaten-and-abandoned-animal-cruelty/

Community in shock after dog skinned alive

This article I found was published on May 29th/2012, it is quite recent and when searching around for articles it may be difficult, until I found this one. Just from reading the title gave me a hint that this would be something extremely emotional for me to read as well just to process how the Dunnaway’s are feeling having to go through the loss of their pug, Bama. Delana Dunnaway had woken up on Friday knowing that something was not right, her pug Bama was not with her and couldn’t be found until a family member found him in a forest behind her home. Bama was skinned, Doctor Rhonda Ellison confirmed that he was indeed skinned: "The skin was completely off his back and off side of his flanks and from his neck to his legs, so completely skinned, someone intentionally did it."
I’m absolutely speechless; I watched the video as well as read the rest of this article and started to cry, I can’t believe someone could just go and take someone’s dog and put it through that much pain and suffering! What I find even more saddening for Delana Dunnaway is touched her beloved Bama he wagged his tail, this dog did not deserve what was done to him, I’m glad to know that he is no longer alive and baring the pain for himself and for his owners. Whoever the sick person who that they could just do this to someone’s pet needs to have a severe reality check and face the consequences for his/her actions, for me this person should be put in jail for life but I know this may not be plausible. http://www.waaytv.com/news/local/story/Community-in-shock-after-dog-skinned-alive/TNZMkFVfx0C-AR1o7SQTJg.cspx

Cat swing trial: Animal cruelty case thrown out due to lack of evidence

October 29th of last year, 20-year-old Riain Richards was convicted of allegedly “to have swung two-year-old Mowgli around about 17 times in 30 seconds in front of friends who cheered him on.” My mind set when reading this is absolutely shocked, I’m baffled at the fact the Richards friends there stood there and cheered him as he continued to swing this cat around by its tail! If you think about it, a cat’s tail is a part of its spine, and its spine is what makes it possible for cats (and other animals) too move, so if you damage the spine this cat will no longer be able to move. Think of how you would feel if you were hypothetically being swung around by your spine? Yes, if you thought it would hurt, well then think of how the cat would feel.
Furthermore, this article is updating the court case at which was made and how now it is being tossed aside because of the “lack of evidence.” Magistrate Gillian Monk (judge in this court case) said: “The CCTV and photographic evidence presented is of such poor quality that it is hard to identify any distinguishing features." No forensic evidence was found at Mr. Richards' home or on his computer. "Nothing we have seen or heard has securely placed his hands on that cat." This greatly maddens me due to the fact that there is clear evidence of Richards swinging this cat around in the air. As well there was a comment made saying: “If it was a child, they would not be saying this was a poor quality video! They would be analyzing the video with enhanced equipment to positively identify the person doing this as well as enhancing what he was swinging around. It clearly looks to me like a black cat. Sounds more like selective court issues.”
I highly agree with what this person has said because if people were really angered with what took place they would have done what it took to get justice needed in order to punish Richards. The owner of this cat deserves to get justice; her cat is now left physically and mentally traumatised, no thanks to the idiocy of some people having a laugh!

A Horrific Case Of Animal Cruelty In Florida City

Words cannot begin to describe how I feel just reading this article, though it is a very short one at that, it still has the same impact. On Sunday, June 3rd ̸ 2012, “Law Enforcement Ranger Mirta Maltes tells CBS12 she found Destiny at a Circle K gas station in Florida City. The dog was dumped there after someone cut her side open with a machete.” Now, this just makes me utterly sick to my stomach I really don’t know what would make someone do this, like what did this poor dog do to you? Furthermore, this sick person used a machete…a MACHETE! Who carries a machete around with them?
I’m grateful that Mirta Maltes, the woman who found Destiny, because if it wasn’t for her she would have been deceased within a matter of time due to her injuries. Lucky now she is recovering  If the owner of Destiny is found I surely hope that he or she is greatly punched, it makes you really wonder what goes on in someone’s mind. For me, personally, I think that the person accountable should never be given the privilege to own any sort of animal as long as they, seeing that they are incapable of safely taking care of one. At this moment I'm just glad to know that Destiny is in good hands, hopefully not baring the pain which she received from the unknown assailant.

Blow dart to the chest kills Ames cat in apparent animal cruelty case

The only thing I can think of is why? Why would anyone be so cruel! On May 17th/2012, a neighbour of Ron Carson witnessed a terrible scene he saw Carson’s cat 10 year-old cat ‘Star’ limping back to his home the collapsing just across the driveway. The neighbour rushed to the injured cat, taking it in to a small- animal hospital with the hopes of it surviving, though when Carson got there his poor cat passed away. Animal cruelty cases like this question the humanity in people, someone did this perhaps out of pure boredom and didn’t think of the consequences of their actions, someone’s cat passed away and it’s their own fault. I presume that the culprit could have been a teenager thinking they would impress someone or multiple people, never the less it is extremely irresponsible and sick!
In the article it states that ̎ Star was more of an explorer ̎, so in a way Star could have been injured in another way such as getting hit by a car, though it doesn’t justify the fact that some heartless person injured a defenceless animal. My hopes and prayers go out to the family that have lost their beloved pet, I know what it is like to feel the loss of your cat, and although my circumstances were different the feeling is mutual. In addition, I hope the person responsible is found and given whatever punishment is appropriate to what has happened and there will be some form of closure for the family knowing who is responsible for killing their cat.

Kent man charged with animal cruelty for shooting dachshund in leg

In this article, which was written by Steve Hunter is one of those cases where you think to yourself how someone could be so senseless. Steven William Cole, a 49-year old is being charged with first-degree animal cruelty for ostensibly shooting a neighbour’s 7-year old dachshund in the leg with a pellet gun. Cole openly admitted to the deputy that he does indeed own a high-powered pellet rifle which he used to shoot rabbits on his property, but what baffles me is that he used this pellet rifle which I would assume should not be used to kill any type of animal to injure someone else’s animal. I do realize, as a pet owner, having someone’s pets’ feces on my lawn would quite disgusting and indeed irritating to have to clean up constantly but Cole could have approached the situation in a more humane manner.
Furthermore, in the article it was stated that the woman who owns Zeus “looked toward Cole's house and saw him in a front window laughing.” The only thing that goes through my mind is how someone can hypothetically get a “thrill” off of an causing, in this case, a dog a severe amount of pain and just laugh about it? If I were in Cole’s position, which I would NEVER want to be in, the regret and hatred I would feel towards myself would be immense. I personally can’t handle the thought process Cole must have gone through to want to intentionally shoot a dog to show he was angered at his neighbors, I’m just glad to hear this dog is going to recover and even gladder Cole is getting charged for what he did!

"Horrible Act": Severely Burned Cat Found in West Sacramento

Searching though articles and articles of animal cruelty cases isn’t as easy as you think; this article is one of those that make me question the humanity in some people.  On May 4th/2012 Yolo County Animal Services had responded to reports made by witnesses of seeing a “ball of fire” when really it was a cat that someone set on fire! All I have to say is why, why would anyone in the right mind set an innocent cat on fire? This cat was a stray so no one knows who was responsible for inflicting harm upon it, but if you think about it would you want to be set on fire? This poor cat was euthanized to take it out of its “unimaginable pain and would have to lose limbs because of how bad the burns were.” So to put this in perspective, switch places with the cat…imagine you being lit on fire!
As mentioned in the article “investigators say the cat was intentionally set on fire after being “doused with an accelerant,”” I am inferring that whoever did this to the cat may have in fact been a group of teenagers thinking they would be cool to set a cat on fire, though if you think about it what makes you think hurting an animal for no apparent reason is in any way cool?  To think there are people who would do this just makes me cringe and brings tears to my eyes, if they find whoever is responsible I dearly hope they are punched and feel immoral for what they did!

Man wanted for animal cruelty

Reading this article deeply saddens me because seeing the level of irresponsibility that some people have for their animals is just heart-breaking. Ken Jones, the owner of two dogs is wanted for animal cruelty after Animal Cruelty investigators searched his home after a compliant was made, leading to the death of one dog and the other was lethargic (tired, exhausted, etc.). He stated that he was helping his sick mother and unable to care for the two dogs, in addition he was incapable of taking the dogs to the veterinarian due to his lack of money. To me I think that Jones is making up excuses as to why he couldn’t care for those poor dogs, he should have taken responsibility and taken the dogs to an animal shelter so they could be watched over and treated.
If you look at my previous article it talks about two men physically hurting pigs and they are sentenced a total of 10 weeks of jail time, Jones should be enduring the same fate although he is facing a charge of cruelty to animals which I hope leading to serving time. This man was extremely negligent for not rightfully caring to his dogs but what makes me cringe is that he didn’t know one of his dogs was dead; he shouldn’t have to worry about having a dead dog if he had only been a responsible pet owner and provided a safe and loving environment, not chaining them to a fence and leaving. I hope Jones never has the luxury of owning a dog ever again, saving them from his reckless care.

Animal cruelty pair jailed after being caught stubbing out cigarettes on pigs’ faces and hitting them with baton.

On April 25th/2012 a pair of men by the names of Piotr Andrzej Wasiuta, 30 and Kelly Smith, 40 were sentenced a total of 10 weeks for being caught in the act of pushing a lit cigarette onto the forehead and snout of three different pigs, as well as beating them with the edge of a ‘slapper”. Wasiuta was sentenced 6 weeks in jail for being the one who had pushed a “lit cigarette onto the forehead and snout of three different pigs as well as and forcing hot ash into one of the animals’ faces as it squirms to get away.” While Smith is only sentenced 4 weeks in jail for “ hitting one pig 30 times in a minute - forcing the animal to sit down and pant heavily during the tirade of blows.”
When reading this article I became very disturbed to know that these men were secretly filmed by the animal rights group Animal Aid and they did not step in and notify police that any of this was happening to those poor pigs, I understand that they may have wanted to collect further information on these men to perchance the increase of charges towards Wasiuta and Smith. Though if I were in their position I would have done something knowing those pigs were being harmed. In addition this article provides a YouTube video of the men discreetly doing exactly as stated in the article, stubbing out cigarettes on pig’s faces and hitting them with a baton as well as with their fist. I could only watch a painful thirty seconds before it become too overwhelming for me to watch. The disrespect I have towards Wasiuta and Smith is beyond me, I truly hope their jail sentence increases for the crimes they have committed.

Introduction

My name is Casey Voisine, I’m 15 and I’m going to tell you why I chose to write about animal cruelty. Multiple cases of animal cruelty occur every day worldwide remaining undetected from the public eye when in reality people should be aware of the physical as well as verbal abuse that animals are experiencing. I, myself, have one dog and two cats and to think of ever causing harm to them makes me feel sick! The one thing I don’t understand is why someone would want to cause harm to any type of animal, the animal itself has probably not done anything to you so now you think it is right to do something to them?
Talking about animal cruelty is a heartbreaking subject and I know that there will be times when I don’t want to read articles, but the more I know the more I can understand and make people aware of this growing problem. My Aunt Louise in California has an organization called ‘The Last Furlong’ http://www.thelastfurlong.org/  and she helps mistreated horses and give them a second chance and help better their lives, she is an inspiration to me and the fact that she is able to help them is beyond incredible. I hope there is a day when people stop mistreating animals but until that day, people need to be wary and help those that are in need.
